Earth Day 2025 takes place on Tuesday 22 April, celebrating 55 years of raising awareness of green and climate change issues and causes.
192 countries and over one billion people around the globe are expected to participate, so here are a few ideas for positive action your business can take to support green issues.
Our Power, Our Planet
This yearโs Earth Day has the theme of โOur Power, Our Planetโ and aims to encourage global support for the adoption of renewable energy and a tripling in the amount of global clean energy generation by 2030. Thatโs a big goal, but you can play your part.
Weโve highlighted five ways you can support Earth Day and make your business more sustainable.
Promote sustainable practices and awareness
Dedicate Earth Day to highlighting your company's existing sustainable practices and educating your staff and customers about environmental issues in your local area.
You can share tips on reducing waste, conserving energy and supporting local eco-friendly initiatives. Share sustainability tips through your internal communications, social media or in-store displays, and help to raise awareness and encourage positive change.
Organise a local clean-up event
Arrange a clean-up event in your local parks or streets where you, your team and community volunteers can help to pick up rubbish, or plant new trees and plants.
A community clean-up directly contributes to a cleaner environment and helps the local wildlife ecosystem. Itโs also an excellent way to build community engagement and environmental responsibility among your team, while also building relationships with local stakeholders.
Offer a sustainable product or service
Try featuring an environmentally friendly product or service on Earth Day, perhaps offering a special discount or promotion.
By offering a discount, you can encourage your customers to make greener choices, while also showcasing your company's commitment to sustainability. Consider highlighting locally sourced or ethically produced items relevant to your community.
Host an educational workshop or presentation
Organise a short workshop or presentation on sustainability for your employees.
This can cover topics like reducing their carbon footprint at work and home, recycling best practices, or the importance of biodiversity in the local area. This empowers your team and encourages them to adopt more sustainable habits beyond Earth Day.
Partner with a local environmental charity or social enterprise
Why not collaborate with a local environmental organisation to run a joint activity or fundraising effort on Earth Day. Itโs a great way to build a partnership within the community.
Your Earth Day event could involve collecting donations, hosting a small awareness event at your premises or volunteering time to support your partnerโs work and cause. This can strengthen community ties and directly contributes to local conservation efforts.
